Corona impact on coaching centres
Today's education is a mix of child's learning at school, supplemented/complemented by the learnings at other locations.
Till about a couple of decades ago, or to say before the BPO evolution/revolution, Engineering and Medicine were two default career streams for children after schooling. Anyone who was unable to qualify for admission to an Engineering or a Medical College would either take the captitation route or would still opt for these exams, next year. While doing see he may join a Graduation course at a nearby College or may decide to drop a year to fully focus on these exams. BPO generation brought a paradigm shift in the society mindset and a child who may not be academically bright as per the traditional school evaluation system could get employed and earn handsome dollar equivalent salary by working at a Call centre. This shift created a demand of skill set which till now was seen only as a hobby.
Spoken English or learning a foreign language hitherto was a hobby, but now knowing German or French or Spanish could provide you with a job at any of the Call centres serving these countries based out of India. This opening up was accompanied by thronging of media channels and opening up of technology which made a person reach anybody, anywhere in the world without spending a large sum. You are reading this blog sitting at any location, the blog could have been written anywhere for that matter. Technology has played an enabler role and this has created a new series of employment opportunities and also a demand of additional skills.
Now, this would be too much to expect from our schooling system to deliver. The function of school is more aligned towards creating and nurturing ethics, values and responsibility amongst the youngsters who grow from a child to an adult and this transition/growth is more of a physical, emotional, spiritual transformation.
The demand of fresh skill set saw an advent of supplement education system known as coaching centres, hobby centres or for that matter the evening classes. Success of these classes lies in the expertise of the individuals who MAKE IT HAPPEN, because it is their skills that make children to learn from them. Today we see a big category of individuals who have taken up active roles in personality development, language skills, dancing, guiding IT skills, maths and elementary skills. This list doesn't end here. It goes ON and ON and ON.
Now, with severe impact of Corona hitting the traditional economy of the world at large, social distancing is a challenge that is going to stay for a while, also the Corona has impacted the fund flow of parents. Parents may decide to choose and opt for the school facilities as they are necessary for the growth of their child, however, it seems that the supplementary education that was working towards creating an individual identity of a child may take some time to come back to its old norm. With this system at a distance for a while, it may happen that there could be a gap of 2 years when we see children bereft of their creativity and hobbies. We believe that this phase should finish quickly as it will help in making things easy for everyone.
